The Fuzzy FilterŪ is an innovative and cost effective filter. The filter is very high-rate, compact, modular, and applicable to a wide variety of water and wastewater applications. The filter uses a nominal 30” deep media bed comprised of individual 1.25” diameter compressible synthetic fiber spheres, and achieves a high rate of solids removal down to 4 microns. The total porosity of the filter bed can be mechanically altered to suit influent characteristics by mechanically compressing the media. The operator can now adjust media porosity to suit his influent characteristics – and he can do so with the push of a button. The media porosity and solids removal can be optimized to maximize solids capture and run time. The filter uses influent water to wash. By utilizing violent air scour in conjunction with positive media retention, the filter media cleans easily with very little wash water, and without media loss.

The Fuzzy FilterŪ is available sizes from 2.25 to 64 ft2 with flows ranging from 0.10 MGD to 2.8 MGD at a loading rate of 30 GPM/ft2.

Two 7’x7’ filters installed in 2005 for recycling 4.2 MGD of wastewater reduced plant discharge to the river by 1.3 billion gallons/year. This Oklahoma plant earned the Frank Condre Award for Environmental Excellence for 2005.
